Eduardo Cardeal
It was from my grandparents and my parents that I inherited the love of the vine and wine. A passion that grew with each passing day and that, even today, continues to grow. I worked with them until I graduated in Oenology at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. Getting here was already a big challenge! I worked with various grape varieties, vineyards, wines and regions. It was in the Douro that I started working, passing through Trás-os-Montes and then Vinhos Verdes. Now, I divide my time between Alentejo and Douro.
Grande Desafio d'Ouro
2017 was a landmark year. The harvest was epic and one of the reasons why we got here, this wine. After a week of hand-picked harvesting, during the night, in the heart of Alentejo, I launched the challenge to the young team: to go to the Douro. We left at 11pm on Friday the 22nd of September.
It was already 5 am on Saturday morning when we arrived in the beautiful Douro. We picked all the grapes and loaded the truck. We returned to the Alentejo soon after. At 3am on Sunday morning, after leaving the whole team at their homes, I went to the cellar. I treated the raw material, quite rich and wonderful.
The grape varieties are Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional. At 11am this long weekend ended. Time when the Grande Desafio d’Ouro began to be born. An elegant wine, with persistence, volume and texture. It is a wine that perfectly reflects the place where it comes from.
